I have an old wooden coffee table that is now creme and looks a bit too worn. It was my brother’s table and he was really hard on it and it is covered in stains and whatnot. SO, what I am asking is, I like the vintage look but I would like to do it with a darker brown. How can I achieve this look?
If you want a painted finish, sand it, prime it then repaint it in water-based paint in the colour of your choice. Then use some course sand paper to scuff the edges, round off corners etc. Then take some water-based light brown wood stain, water it down and wipe it over the piece with a rag working it into the scratches, dents, holes and any grooves or recesses. Wipe off any excess with the rag or a clean wet rag. There that should do it.

Have you checked the Vintage clothing and accessories stores in your area? Sometimes I find good vintage stuff in thrift stores too (Good Will, Salvation Army stores etc). Check the web, or your phone book for those stores. Near my area there are Consignment stores that also carry some vintage items. Good luck in shopping.
